As a general rule, no. A radar sensor detects presence and triggers a response, but it is not a physical barrier, so it cannot stop ejected parts or debris or keep people from reaching a hazard. Whether it can reduce or replace guarding in a particular case is decided by the machine risk assessment. In many applications it is used alongside guarding rather than instead of it.
The sensor detects up to 9 m, with standard variants covering 0–5 m. The monitored zone is volumetric, up to 30° vertical by 110° horizontal, and is configurable for the application.
The sensor detects people, vehicles and machinery moving within the monitored zone. The monitored zone is set up for your application. For details of how the sensor classifies different types of objects, please ask the team for the product datasheet.
