Resolution is the smallest object the light curtain can reliably detect. At 30 mm, the beams are close enough together to detect a hand or finger entering the field, which is why this version is described as hand protection. It also lets the operator stay close to the work area, because the light curtain sits right at the danger point.
The safety distance depends on the machine's stopping time, the light curtain's response time (13 ms) and the approach speed, as described in ISO 13855.
