The Cyber Resilience Act is EU Regulation (EU) 2024/2847, which sets cybersecurity requirements for products with digital elements sold in the EU. It makes manufacturers responsible for building security into their products, handling vulnerabilities and reporting serious security problems. Reporting duties apply from 11 September 2026, and most other requirements, including CE marking for cybersecurity, apply from 11 December 2027.
It can. Machinery that contains software or hardware with a data connection to a device or network, such as PLCs, HMIs, remote-access functions or network interfaces, may fall within the scope of the CRA as, or as part of, a product with digital elements. Whether and how it applies depends on the machine, its components and who places it on the EU market, so each product should be checked individually.
The CRA covers products with digital elements, meaning software or hardware products with a direct or indirect data connection to a device or network, along with certain related remote data processing. For industrial equipment, this can include controllers, connected machine components and automation systems placed on the EU market. Some product types are covered by other EU rules and excluded, so please check your product against the regulation or ask the team.
